Client : Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), Dhaka.
Detailed Narrative Description of Project & Services provided : The Study was designed to make an analytical appraisal of the decade of cooperation between FAO and Bangladesh. Some of the FAO / UNDP sponsored projects in Bangladesh were critically examined within the framework of the study.

Project Name : Studies on Operation, Maintenance and Productive use of
Flood Control, Drainage & Irrigation
Client : Ministry of Irrigation, Water Development and Flood Control and
Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development & Cooperatives, GOB.
Detailed Narrative Description of Project & Services provided : This was a multi-disciplinary study of Flood Control, Drainage and Irrigation Projects (FCDI). It involved intensive test studies of FCDI tructures in the project area focusing on their engineering, social economic, technical, legal and administrative aspects. The study aimed at assessing the physical features, operation and maintenance, resource availabilitys, the level of popular participation, the nature, extent and potential for resource use relating to selected structures of FCDI, The organizational, institutional, administrative and legalistic complexities relating to the operation and maintenance aspects of the structures were also studied. Special attention as given to analysing the legal, administrative and technical aspects of access of the rural poor in the FCDI projects.

Detailed Narrative Description of Project & Services provided : A draft ordinance was drawn up for onsideration, vetting and use by the Ministry of Communication in connection with the setting up of Jamuna Multipurpose Interconnector Authority. Expertise provided for the project included legal experts, public finance specialists and experts on administrative affairs.

Project Name : Forty Years of FAO and Cooperation with Bangladesh
Client : Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), Dhaka.
Detailed Narrative Description of Project & Services provided : This was an evaluation study on the FAO activities in connection with the celebration of the fortieth anniversary of the founding of the organization. FAO activities in Bangladesh were specially highlighted and critically examined. Some of the FAO / UNDP sponsored projects were also objectively examined in this connection.

Detailed Narrative Description of Project & Services provided : The Study aimed at contributing to better utilization of the available resource-human, material and financial-for Catchment Area Planning and Management (CAPM). It also purported to estimate the additional resources required for effective CAPM by comparing current availability with total requirement.

Project Name : Improvement of Commodity Aid Utilization in Bangladesh

Detailed Narrative Description of Project & Services provided : This study was aimed at an in-depth investigation into the commodity aid utilized in Bangladesh, to identify the extent of and reasons for its constrained utilization and to suggest possible solutions. Wide range of involved entrepreneurs and government and trade organization officials and representatives of donor agencies were interviewed to particularly highlight the problems connected with the operation of major import programmes.

Project Name : Improvement of Project Aid Utilization in Bangladesh

Detailed Narrative Description of Project & Services provided : The study was intended to make an in-depth investigation of the way project aid was utilized in Bangladesh, to identify the reasons for low productivity of development assistance to the country and to propose options for ensuring the effectiveness particularly regarding the main goals and objectives of project aid. Investigation of current procedures and practices with special reference to planning and project approval and review of implementation issues like procurement and training were among the major tasks. Policy measures were recommended for short-term improvement and long-term structural changes.

Project Name : Study Report on Poverty Alleviation & Balance Growth
Client : Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)
Detailed Narrative Description of Project & Services provided : The core of the development objectives in predominantly poor Bangladesh is the alleviation of mass poverty. In recent years policies have been adopted at the macro economic level to help achieve objectives through faster and expanded growth of the economy and significant enhancement of opportunities for gainful employment, through expanded role of the Human Resource Development sectors, enhanced participation of women in development and greater poverty alleviation. The study performed an up-to-date review of the status of GOB's plans, programs, activities, in-terms especially of, financial investment, allocation and expenditures in the spheres of Poverty Alleviation, Human Resources and Social Sectors Development with emphasis on Women-in-Development (WID).

Detailed Narrative Description of Project & Services provided : The objective of the study is to arrive at a government financial plan or strategy to enable upazilas to handle their responsibilities including recommendations on how to strengthen capability of Upazilas to mobilize more resources from existing or new sources.

Detailed Narrative Description of Project & Services provided : The objective of the study is to examine the problems faced by Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SME), services offered by the chamber and its capability to cater to the needs of SME and to undertake the responsibilities of regulatory functions which are now being performed by the GOB.
